The Department of Statistics and Data Science at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, established in 1982, is dedicated to providing students with state-of-the-art statistical education and conducting cutting-edge research. For over four decades, the Department has hosted world-class faculty with diverse research areas, including statistical finance, risk management science, statistical theory and methodology, big data, biostatistics, bioinformatics, and various cross-disciplinary fields. In today’s Information Age, statistics has become an indispensable tool across many domains, including natural sciences, medical sciences, social sciences, biomedical sciences, finance, economics, and engineering. The Department of Statistics and Data Science at Tsinghua University, established in July 2024 (evolving from the Center for Statistical Science founded in 2015), adheres to the philosophy of "mathematics as foundation, statistics as core, and data as application." Our world-class faculty includes COPSS Award winner and U.S. National Academy of Sciences member Professor Jun S. Liu, and Chinese Academy of Sciences Academician Professor Song Xi Chen. We focus on three core research directions: Fundamental Theory of Statistics and Data Science, Statistical Theory of AI and Machine Learning, and Interdisciplinary Sciences. Since 2015, we have trained dozens of doctoral students and offered a popular undergraduate minor in Statistics. A full undergraduate major in Statistics will launch in Fall 2025.
